COLLECTION
This Sunday (the 8th) is a second Sunday, when we hold an extra collection for our building fund. If people are away but still want to contribute, they can always mark an envelope “Building Fund” and leave it in the ordinary collections, or speak to Neil about donating online. Donations to this fund can also be gift aided, allowing us to claim back the income tax and make more money from any individual donation.

NEWS

As announced last week, Fr John Behr will lead us all in a time of reflection and learning on Sunday 22nd July with the theme “Standing by the Cross, Putting on Christ”.

This will be after the Divine Liturgy and with a bring-and-share lunch.

PUT THE DATE IN YOUR DIARIES NOW! Make what arrangements you need so that you will be able to be there! Do please make every effort you can. We will all learn a good deal and it is an all too rare chance for us all to get together as a community outside the services.

FOODBANK UPDATE

The food bank box is looking pretty empty. As we look ahead, the food bank is always at its busiest during the winter months. Donations now will allow them to stock up in advance of their busiest times of year. Remember, when we help the hungry, we are doing it to Our Lord himself.

Donations must be of non-perishable food items with a best before date a minimum of six months in the future. It also takes, and is usually in dire need of, toiletries and personal care items, such as plasters, tampons/sanitary towels, toothpaste and shower gel.

ARCHIVIST

Our Parish is seventy years old this year. Over the years we have collected a fair amount of material that makes up the history of our Parish community. Photographs and video are constantly being added to this. We now need an ARCHIVIST to keep track of all this. This would mean gathering and organizing written records, pictures etc., digitizing this, organizing earthbound and cloud storage. Etc.

Could this person be YOU?

If you think you could help with this task please email info@bristol-orthodox-church.co.uk, or talk to Kate Hearn, or any member of the council in church.

SINGING IN THE CHOIR

SINGERS WANTED! Come and give it a try! Really! Please come and help.

REGULAR REMINDERS:

HELPING YOUR PARISH

1) This year we have successfully bid for funding to cover most of the cost of upgrading the stonework of the porch, and been nominated to receive charity donations from Clifton Village Co-op. If you live within 15 miles of Clifton Co-op and have a blue Co-op membership card, you can vote for more of their charity donation to come our way whenever you visit Clifton Co-op.

2) Use https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ for your online shopping – Amazon, John Lewis and hundreds of others. You just access your usual site via the easyfundraising link, selecting our church as your chosen charity, and they give a percentage of your purchase money to the church. It’s easy once you have done it once. And it all adds up.

LEARNING ABOUT OUR FAITH

1. Children’s Catechism Class

The Sunday School is on holiday for the summer now. Christina is, sadly, leaving Bristol this summer, but we intend the school to continue in September. If you would like to enrol your child, contact info@bristol-orthodox-church.co.uk It is hugely important for our young ones to know their faith and be prepared to live in a world increasingly intolerant of those who believe.

2. Adults

It is not only the children who need to learn. Very few of us have had the benefit of specific learning about our Orthodox faith.

Henry (Cuthbert) McGrath is running a group for teenagers and adults, teaching about aspects of our Church and its faith. If you would like to join in with this just ask him in church on a Sunday or email him (henrymcgrath67@gmail.com). NB new email address.

N.B. This group is open to anyone from 12 years upwards.

SALE OF JAM etc.

Kate Hearn has always got a selection of home-produced jams, chutneys, etc. – even honey sometimes – for sale after the services.

ICONS FOR SALE

Do keep an eye on the icons that Raluca mounts and puts on sale in church. Perhaps you have room for one in your home? Have you seen her Facebook page (Raluca Ortodox Icons) yet ?

IMPORTANT NOTE:

PLEASE NOTIFY US AT ONCE OF A CHANGE OF EMAIL ADDRESS OR POSTAL ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER
